He began his film career in 1918 with a role in Cecil B. DeMille’s “Old Wives for New.” Boyd appeared in several DeMille productions throughout the 1920s, gaining experience in the silent and early sound eras of Hollywood. In 1935 he assumed the role of Hopalong Cassidy, a character that would define his professional life.
