Early Life and Family

Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell was born in Los Angeles, California, on December 18, 2001. Her first name honors her maternal grandfather, William. The name Eilish was inspired by a documentary about conjoined twins, while Pirate was suggested by her older brother, Finneas.

Her parents, Maggie Baird and Patrick O’Connell, were actors before joining Billie’s music career as part of her team. Raised in Highland Park, Los Angeles, Eilish and her brother were homeschooled, allowing them to develop their creative talents. Billie was deeply involved in dance, gymnastics, horseback riding, and most notably, music. She started playing the ukulele at age 6, learning her first song, “I Will” by The Beatles.

At 8 years old, Eilish joined the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus, which helped her develop her unique vocal style.
